Sisters. Oregon artist (and shop owner!), Jennifer Heiden Smith creates small scale encaustic paintings of the Three Sisters Mountains and Black Butte, two of the more famous and beloved "peak views" in Central Oregon.  Encaustic paint, made of beeswax and damar resin (a tree resin)  is an ancient art material, going as far back as ancient Egypt. It is melted and applied to a stable surface, in this case, wood panels. Layers can be built up, textures carved in, material can be embedded, color can be added with pastels or other materials, all resulting in a very rich and durable art piece. These paintings have finished edges, do not need to be framed, and are suitable for hanging or displaying on a stable, flat surface.
These paintings are very affordable ways to bring original, locally made art into your home or to give to loved ones. Come by the shop to see what's available, or check out current and past works in the online catalog.
